Although the CNN “Inside Politics” Web page that is linked here is generally domestic in focus, international news is readily available in other areas of the CNN Web site.

Center for Defense Information (CDI)

The Center for Defense Information, an independent military research organization, has an excellent Web site that will interest anyone who wants to know more about the world’s “hot spots.” Research topics on this site include defense policy, foreign policy, military forces, strategy, arms trade issues, European issues, nuclear issues, international peacekeeping, and military spending. Information regarding CDI productions such as the television series American Defense Monitor is also available.

Web Genocide Documentation Centre

The politics of destruction is best shown in the modern era through genocidal campaigns. The Web Genocide Documentation Centre, by Dr. Stuart Stein, provides resources on genocide, war crimes, and mass killings. The site lists all major campaigns of the last century and provides links to various references, such as histories, bibliographies, UN reports, maps, timelines, news articles, and other forms of documentation. Included are a definition of genocide as agreed upon at the 1948 Geneva Convention and a glossary.

Machiavelli’s The Prince

To learn more about the strategy of lion and fox visit this Web site dedicated to Niccolò Machiavelli and his book The Prince. This site provides a summary, outline, and full text of the book as well as a biography of Machiavelli. It also includes thorough definitions of such doctrines as altruism, elitism, humanism, and utilitarianism.

American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO)

The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations is a federation of labor unions in the United States. The AFL-CIO promotes workers’ rights and attempts to “build and change the American labor movement.” The site lists workers’ rights, sets an agenda for change, and provides various news articles, including those regarding union strikes.

The Thoreau Reader

The Thoreau Reader Web site compiles the books, essays, poetry, and thoughts of Henry David Thoreau. Full texts of Thoreau’s works, including Civil Disobedience, are provided. Numerous links lead to other sites and additional information, including sites where the thoughts of Thoreau are compared to those of Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi.
