The American Presidency Project

The American Presidency Project at the University of California, Santa Barbara, is an on-line database containing 66,423 documents related to the study of the presidency. Presidential papers and addresses have been organized into a single searchable database. A multimedia library searchable by name contains audio and video of presidential addresses.

 

Impeachment Documents Relating to a U.S. President

This site, maintained by Auburn University, has full-text versions of selected government documents relating to the impeachments of Andrew Johnson, Richard Nixon, and Bill Clinton. The PDF files include procedures, reports, and hearings.

The Center for Responsible Politics (CRP) is a campaign finance reform organization. The CRP is a nonpartisan, nonprofit research group based in Washington, D.C., that tracks money in politics and its effect on elections and public policy. Its Web site has a wealth of easily searchable official data about campaign finance, campaign finance legislation, and campaign finance reform efforts.

The Pew Research Center for the People and the Press is an independent opinion research group that studies attitudes toward the press, politics, and public policy issues in the United States. The center conducts regular national surveys that measure public attentiveness to major news stories and trends in values and fundamental social attitudes.

 

Legal Information Institute

The Legal Information Institute (LLI) at the Cornell University School of Law maintains this Web site dedicated to legal research and electronic publishing activity. The available databases include U.S. Supreme Court opinions and a collection of core statutes, codes, and treaties.

 

American Experience

This link is to the Web site that supports American Experience, television’s longest-running, most-watched history series, on PBS. American Experience Online encourages in-depth exploration, beyond the television screen, of the issues surrounding each documentary subject. The on-line archive has video, audio, and Web sites covering a wide variety of topics including war and politics, political figures, technological developments, and popular culture.

 

The Founders’ Constitution

The Founders’ Constitution is a project of the University of Chicago Press. The Web site provides links to writings of a wide array of people engaged in the problem of making popular government safe, steady, and accountable. Most of the documents outlining the fundamental principles of the U.S. Declaration of Independence and U.S. Constitution can be found here. The documents included range from the early seventeenth century to the 1830s.
