Europa: Gateway to the European Union

EUROPA is the portal site of the European Union. The site provides up-to-date coverage of European Union affairs and information on European integration. Users can access the Web sites of each of the EU institutions and find out about the policies administered by the European Union.

 

Euopean Bank for Reconstruction and Development

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) was established in 1991, when communism was crumbling in Central and Eastern Europe and former Soviet countries needed economic support to establish private sector markets in a democratic environment. The EBRD Web site has a vast quantity of information about economic development in Europe and includes databases that allow country-specific and sector-specific searches.

 

Public Opinion

This is the Web site for the European Commission’s “Eurobarometer,” a Europe-wide public opinion survey monitoring the evolution of public opinion in the member states. The surveys and studies available address major topics concerning European citizenship—enlargement, the social situation, health, culture, information technology, environment, and defense. The interactive search system allows access to survey questions asked several times a year. This search tool allows users to choose a subject, a particular period of time, and a country and then compare the results with those of any other European Union country.

 

Parties and Elections in Europe

“Parties and Elections in Europe” is a Web link to a database about parliamentary elections in Europe. The data are available on years from 1945 to present. Additional information is available about the political parties and political leaders in each country. The site also contains an electoral calendar of upcoming parliamentary elections, news about political parties, and links to parties and official election authorities.
