1. How do I get access to the FREE Web service that is included with my print subscription?

If you have placed an order for a staff directory and would like to begin to access the Web version, you need to complete a registration process first to create your own, unique user name and password. Once that registration process is complete, you can log on to the site with that unique user name and password in the section titled "Subscriber Area" on the homepage of the directory site. You need to have placed an order first, because you need a valid invoice number in order to register. This invoice number will be provided on the invoice/receipt you receive after placing the order, or by calling Customer Service at 1-866-427-7737.

The registration process is as follows:

These instructions are for registering for the following products ONLY:

  • Congressional Staff Directory print subscription with Free Web Access, Web only subscription, or Download Add-on
  • Federal Staff Directory print subscription with Free Web Access, Web only subscription, or Download Add-on
  • Judicial Staff Directory print subscription with Free Web Access, Web only subscription, or Download Add-on
  • Homeland Security Staff Directory Web only subscription, or Download Add-on
  • The Federal Collection print subscription with Free Web Access, Web only subscription, or Download Add-on
  • Media Contact Directory Free Web Access with the print order or Web only subscription (note, Media Contact Directory includes downloads)
  • Almanac of Federal PACs Free Web Access with the print order, Web only subscription, or Download Add-on
  • New York Staff Directory Free Web Access with the print order, Web only subscription, or Download Add-on

Step One

To register for any online access, you need your invoice numbers. That means that your order must be entered into our system and an invoice number has generated for that order. If you have your invoice or receipt in front of you, use that invoice number to register. If you have a renewal, renewal invoice, or packing slip, that number will not let you register. If you don’t know what your invoice numbers are you may:

As you know, access to the staff directories online comes free with your active/paid subscription to the print editions. Download access is an additional subscription fee for all except Media Contact Directory and a subscription to the print editions is required. When you register for the Download access you agree to the following terms: The Download access is non-refundable after the first download is completed; Downloaded information can not be sold, given or transferred to any one other than the registered subscriber

Step Two

Go to the following web address http://register.cq.com. From here you will see the following options:

  • I need to register for the first time - This option should be used if you have never registered for any of the products, including the Download access. In this option you can register for all of the staff directory products you currently subscribe to at one time.
  • I need to register a new product under an existing username and password - This option should be used if you have previously registered but have subscribed to additional products for which you would like to register. This option can also be used if you have transferred from one product to another.
  • I need to register for the Download Add-On (not applicable for Media Contact Directory) - This option can be used simply to add the Download registration to your current registration. The Download access must use the same username and password as the product registration you are downloading. This option is not applicable to the Media Contact Directory because downloads are part of the subscription and not an add-on.

For any of the options above, you must first enter your e-mail address. Please note that CQPress only utilizes our subscribers’ e-mail address for registration, renewal, and important product announcements. We do not sell e-mail addresses for advertising purposes. Once your email address is entered, click on Next Step. From here follow the steps for the option you are using.

a. I need to register for the first time

Complete the information required at the top of the Registration Form including your name, company name and phone number. Create a User Name and Password that only you will use and is easy for you to remember (there are character restrictions listed). Then click on the small box to the left of the product or products you are registering for and enter the invoice number in the larger box to the right of that product. Then click on Complete Registration. You will see a screen that tells you that you have successfully registered. You will also receive a confirmation email. Once that is complete, you can go the product Web site and login in the upper left corner where it says Subscriber Log In.

b. I need to register a new product under an existing username and password

For this option you must enter the same email address you previously registered under. If you don’t remember that email address, contact customer service or webhelp@cqpress.com and ask for that information. Once you have entered the email address, you will see a second registration page that shows you the products you currently have registered and asks for your password. If you don’t remember your password, ask customer service or webhelp. Once you enter the password, click on Next Step. You will see a completed registration form and the products you are registered for will show invoice numbers next to them. Click on the products you wish to add to this registration, enter the invoice numbers in the boxes to the right, and then click on Complete Registration. You will see a screen that tells you that you have successfully registered. You will also receive a confirmation email. Once that is complete, you can go the product Web site and login in the upper left corner where it says Subscriber Log In.

c. I need to register for the Download Add-On. (not applicable for Media Contact Directory

The Download Access is a separate product for all publications except the Media Contact Directory, but you must use the same email, user name and password for the Downloads as you do for the products you are downloading. So for this option you must enter the same email address in the space provided. If you don’t remember that email address, contact customer service or webhelp@cqpress.com and ask for that information. Once you have entered the email address, you will see a second registration page that shows you the products you currently have registered and asks for your password. If you don’t remember your password, ask customer service or webhelp. Once you enter the password, click on Next Step. You will see a completed registration form and the products you are registered for will show invoice numbers next to them. Click on the download products you wish to add to this registration, enter the invoice numbers in the boxes to the right, and then click on Complete Registration. You will see a screen that tells you you have successfully registered. You will also receive a confirmation email. Once that is complete, you can go the product Web site and login in the upper left corner where it says Subscriber Log In. Once you have logged into the site, you will see Download as the final option in the Subscriber Area in the upper left corner. Click on that option and you will see the Download Menu. Click on the icon for the product you logged in for and begin your search.

The Congressional Staff Directory can be accessed at http://csd.cqpress.com, the Federal Staff Directory at http://fsd.cqpress.com, the Judicial Staff Directory at http://jsd.cqpress.com the Homeland Security Staff Directory at http://hssd.cqpress.com the Media Contact Directory at http://media.cqpress.com, the Almanac of Federal PACs at http://directories.pacs.com, and the New York, New Jersey, California, Illinois, Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia directories and the Practice Advance products can be reached from http://directories.cqpress.com . There is a Help button at the top right of every screen that you can access at any time you need additional assistance.

2. What is the difference between a standing order and a subscription?

Several updated editions of some staff directories are released each year. A standing order serves you one edition in a year, and you have a standing order to receive that same edition, year after year. For example, if you have a standing order for the summer edition, you will receive just the summer edition, and no other updates, until the summer edition is released again the following year. Then you receive the summer edition again automatically and you are invoiced for that edition. For staff directories that only publish once a year, you can get a standing order to the book to receive it every year when it releases, or if there is a free login that comes with the book order, then request an automatic renewal of the order from year to year.

A subscription serves you all of the updated editions that come out in a subscription year, and you must renew it at the end of the year in order to continue. The companion Web site is available with the subscription, but not the standing order, and may also be available with some single book orders.

3. When do the print editions ship? What are the available dates? When is my Web access available? Why does my subscription term start on this date?

  • For the Congressional Staff Directory, you receive three print editions each year. The spring edition comes out at the end of March, the summer edition comes out at the end of June, and the fall edition comes out at the end of September. You can order the single books when they are available, order a standing order of a single book, or order the subscription to receive all updated editions. Subscriptions always begin on the first of a month and end on the last of a month.
  • For the Federal Staff Directory, you receive three print editions each year. The winter edition comes out at the end of December (the winter 2008 edition will come out in December 2007), the summer edition comes out at the end of April, and the fall edition comes out at the end of August. You can order the single books when they are available, order a standing order of a single book, or order the subscription to receive all updated editions. Subscriptions always begin on the first of a month and end on the last of a month.
  • For the Judicial Staff Directory, you receive two print editions each year. The winter edition comes out at the end of December (the winter 2008 edition comes out in December 2007), and the summer edition comes out at the end of May. You can order the single books when they are available, order a standing order of a single book, or order the subscription to receive all updated editions. Subscriptions always begin on the first of a month and end on the last of a month.
  • The Federal Collection provides you with all of the above editions in a year.
  • The Homeland Security Staff Directory is an online product only and is available at all times. Subscription terms always begin the first of a month and end the last of a month.
  • The Media Contact Directory comes out in September each year and includes a login to the Web site that is available only until the next print edition releases.All orders begin September 1 and end August 31.
  • The Worldwide Government Directory with International Organizations, and the Profiles of Worldwide Government Leaders come out in March each year. These directories include a login to the Web site that is available only until the next print edition releases. All orders begin March 1 and end February 28 (29). (These directories were formerly published by World Bureau LLC)
  • The Worldwide Directory of Defense Authorities comes out in June each year and includes a login to the Web site that is available only until the next edition releases. All orders begin June 1 and end May 31. (This directory were formerly published by World Bureau LLC)
  • World PowerBase is an online product only and is available at all times. Subscription terms always begin the first of a month and end the last of a month.(This directory was formerly published by World Bureau LLC)
  • The Almanac of Federal PACs comes out once every other year in March. The 2006-2007 edition is active until February of 2008. All orders include a login to the Web site that is available only until the next edition releases. All orders begin March 1 (of 2006 for the 2006-2007 edition) and end February 29 (of 2008 for the 2006-2007 edition, in 2008 February has 29 days).   • The Federal-State Court Directory and the Directory of State Court Clerks and County Courthouses come out in September each year. These books are available as standing orders also. There is no Web access with the book order. The 2008 editions will release in 2007. (These directories were formerly published by Want Publishing)
  • Your Nation's Courts Online is an online product only and is available at all times. Subscription terms always begin the first of a month and end the last of a month.(This directory were formerly published by Want Publishing)
  • The Alberta Staff Directory comes out in February each year. The 2007 edition includes a free login to the Web site with the book order. All orders begin February 1 and end January 31. (This directory was formerly published by Public Sector Publishing)
  • The British Columbia Staff Directory comes out in April each year. The 2007 edition includes a free login to the Web site with the book order. All orders begin April 1 and end March 31. (This directory was formerly published by Public Sector Publishing)
  • The New York Staff Directory comes out in June each year. The 2006 edition includes a free login to the Web site with the book order. All orders begin June 1 and end May 31. (This directory was formerly published by Public Sector Publishing)
  • The New Jersey Staff Directory comes out in July each year. The 2006 edition includes a free login to the Web site with the book order. All orders begin July 1 and end June 30. (This directory was formerly published by Public Sector Publishing)
  • The California Staff Directory comes out in August each year. The 2006 edition includes a free login to the Web site with the book order. All orders will begin August 1 and end July 31. (This directory was formerly published by Public Sector Publishing)
  • The Illinois Staff Directory comes out in September each year. The 2006 edition includes a free login to the Web site with the book order. All orders will begin September 1 and end August 31. (This directory was formerly published by Public Sector Publishing)
  • The Texas Staff Directory comes out in November each year. The 2007 edition came out in November of 2006. This directory is available as a book only, no online product is available. (This directory was formerly published by Public Sector Publishing)
  • The Ontario Staff Directory comes out in December each year. The 2007 edition came out in December of 2006. The 2007 edition includes a free login to the Web site with the book order. All orders will begin December 1 and end November 30. (This directory were formerly published by Public Sector Publishing)
  • The Washington Directory was acquired from Columbia Books and the 2006 edition released in November 2007. This directory is available as a book only, no online product is available.
  • The Practice Advance line of products is now available, including the following online only products: Practice Advance Marketing Monitor, International Trade Monitor, Government Relations Monitor, and Securities Monitor. These products are available at all times. Subscription terms always begin the first of a month and end the last of a month.
