Race For The Presidency
Winning the 2008 Nomination
By Rhodes Cook
Select a State

The Connecticut Rules

Joe Lieberman's bid for the Democratic presidential nomination had collapsed by the time his home state of Connecticut voted in 2004. Yet the Nutmeg State may provide more of a boost to the presidential fortunes of his Senate colleague, Christopher Dodd, in 2008, as it is scheduled to vote a month earlier than before.

Participation in the primary is limited to registered voters in each party. As of October 2006, there were 1,922,370 active registered voters in Connecticut—663,517 Democrats, 411,800 Republicans, and 847,053 independents and third-party voters.
