Maryland will join Virginia and the District of Columbia in a capital area regional vote on Feb. 12.
Both parties in Maryland hold closed primaries, with participation limited to their party's registered voters. As of August 2007, there were 3,101,424 registered voters in Maryland—1,714,431 Democrats, 884,963 Republicans, and 502,030 independents and third-party voters.
