The Mississippi Rules

The second Tuesday of March was once the Southern-oriented Super Tuesday. Mississippi will have the day to itself in 2008, when it holds the last presidential primary before Pennsylvania votes in late April.

Mississippi is set to begin phasing in court-ordered party registration later in the year. In the meantime, the primary will be conducted as usual, with the state's 1,715,348 registered voters (as of May 2006) able to participate in the primary of their choice.
